The right to employee representation is a key part of a healthy relationship between a worker and their employer. Trade Unions and other bodies of employee representation give voice to those who would otherwise never be heard on a scale that matters. Through open dialogue with the employer, that voice becomes real change and can improve their workplace to the benefit of all employees, no matter the job title.
And so, it saddens us to hear that Wikimedia Foundation has decided to not respect the many voices of their employees who strive for better representation, not recognizing the Trade Union Wiki Workers United (WWU) and quickly adopting an anti-union campaign. It is a pointless way of making things complicated for everyone.
We want to show our support for the WWU and wish them great perseverance – a fundamental skill for making changes that matter. We stand behind you and hope that this rocky start will not dissuade you from helping your coworkers take part in shaping your workplace.
